Chipotle Cheese Twists

Gooey, cheesy but with a slight kick of heat – these are such a simple and effective snack or appetiser, using only 4 ingredients.

1-2 teaspoons Carla’s Chipotle Blend 

or substitute Carla’s Smoked Paprika if you prefer less spicy

1 sheet ready-roll puff pastry

1 cup of freshly grated cheddar cheese

1 large egg, beaten combined with 1 tsp water – for the egg wash


  • Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius

  • Line a baking sheet and unroll the puff pastry.

  • Sprinkle the pastry all over with the Carla’s Chipotle Blend, then cover with a generous layer of grated cheese, lightly pressing down so that cheese starts to stick to the pastry.

  • Then turn the pastry sheet so it's horizontal, and using a pizza cutter or really sharp knife cut it into 1 inch strips.

  • Then take each strip and carefully twist it from the edges and the centre – roughly 4 or 5 times. Don’t worry about any cheese that falls onto the parchment – it will add to the effect!

  • Brush the pastry twists with egg wash, and bake for 20-25 minutes until puffy and golden brown. Remove and serve immediately! If you happen to have leftovers these are delicious cold too – lunchbox fillers?
